I still keep a Town Hall 12 account alive purely out of stubbornness. It's the level where I learned that a base isn't a picture â it's an argument. You place a wall here, the attacker answers there, and the whole thing turns into a very loud conversation. So every season I rebuild, get hit, swear quietly, and rebuild again. Here's what I've learned from the layouts floating around in 2026, and which ones I'd actually trust with my trophies.

The uncomfortable truth about public bases
Here's the thing nobody tells you when you copy a layout off a random video: the moment a base goes public, it starts dying. Not dramatically â it just quietly leaks. Attackers learn the entry, the Flinger spot gets mapped, the Fireball lane gets rehearsed, and suddenly your "unbreakable" war base is a three-star waiting to happen.
I call it burn. A fresh base is bright and irritating to attack. Two months later it's a tired old thing that everyone knows how to poke.
So when I look at a layout, I ask three questions:
-
How old is it? Anything past ~90 days of public life is basically a museum piece.
-
What does it actually stop? Air, smash, Fireball chains, Flinger entries â pick your poison, but know it.
-
Does it still fit the current meta? Balance changes and progression have quietly rewritten what works at TH12.
My war and CWL picks, ranked by season
The scores below are how these layouts performed for me in war, in CWL, and on the trophy ladder. Higher is better, and no, I didn't round them up to be nice.
| Season | Style | War | CWL | Trophy | Verdict |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Oct 2026 | Diamond-style, anti-air / anti-smash | 99 | 96 | 85 | ðĨ Current best |
| Sep 2026 | Diamond-style, anti-smash | 89 | 84 | 78 | ðĨ Fresh burn risk |
| Aug 2026 | Ring-style | 75 | 80 | 73 | ðŪâðĻ Known by now |

| Dec 2025 | Anti-RC / anti-Fireball | 50 | 50 | 45 | ðŠĶ Archive |

The October layout is the one I'd hand to a friend right now. It's tuned to shut down the air attacks everyone is running and it doesn't fold when someone commits to a full smash push. The Eagle Artillery sits there like an old man in a rocking chair, grumbling, waiting for you to walk into range â and people keep walking into range.
Trophy and ranked bases are a different animal
Ranked mode punishes different mistakes. Nobody cares about your three-star denial if they can chip you for two and walk away smiling. That's why the trophy ladder in 2026 rewards anti-2-star geometry above almost everything else.
| Season | Style | War | CWL | Trophy | Verdict |

Look, I'll be blunt â if you're still running a base from the first half of 2026, you're not defending, you're donating. The walls haven't changed. The attackers have.
Clan Castle troops: the detail everyone forgets
Half the layouts I see fail not because of geometry but because the CC is empty or wrong. My rule of thumb for TH12 right now:
-
War, anti-air focus: 1 Ice Golem + 3 Head Hunters + 7 Archers â the Ice Golem buys the Queen time, the Head Hunters delete heroes.
-
War, anti-smash: 1 Furnace + 2 Head Hunters + 10 Archers â cheap, annoying, and it ruins a clean funnel.
-
Trophy ladder: Lava Hound + Baby Dragon still pulls air attacks into the wrong corner, and honestly that thing hits like a truck when it lands right.
How I actually test a base
I don't trust a screenshot. I run each layout through the same grind:
-
Five friendly challenges against Dragon variations.
-
Three smash-style pushes to see if the core holds.
-
Two Flinger entries aimed at whatever I think is the weak side â usually the side I was most proud of.
-
One sloppy attack from a clanmate, because real opponents are sloppy and that's where layouts leak.
If a base survives that without me wanting to redesign it, it stays. If it doesn't, it goes in the bin and I start again next season. That's the whole job, really â the base doesn't get to rest, and neither do I.

The short version
Freshness beats perfection. A slightly imperfect layout nobody has studied will out-defend a masterpiece that's been public since spring. So pick from the top of the list, fill your Clan Castle properly, and expect to rebuild in about a month.
That's not a flaw in the game. That's the game. ð
